About Joe’s Dog Blog
In October 2009, Saundra started traveling to Pittsburgh for work – leaving Monday, staying all week, and traveling back on Friday.  While it was necessary, from a work perspective, I was really bummed about it.  One night I was particularly depressed and wrote a Facebook status about the bad news, from the point of view of Husband and Dog.

Thereafter, I would occasionally write a status update this way, to keep up a little continuity.  Some people liked my updates about Wife, Husband, and Dog – they got it.  Some didn’t.  And reading Facebook status updates written in the third person makes some people crazy.  A friend I don’t get to see often at work stopped me in the hall and asked me about the whole thing, which prompted me to think it over.  I thought to dump it, as it’s not very adaptable to Facebook, but then came up with making it a blog so that people who wanted to could read along, hence Joe’s Dog Blog.

If you’d like to reach me, you can email me at jloffredo  < > yahoo.com. I had to remove the missing character to keep spammers away, but you know what to add.

Below are the Facebook entries that got the blog started. I would suggest you start with them, then read the blog entries in chronological order. Don’t overlook the pages about the other dogs in Dog’s life. They are probably best read as you encounter each dog, but some folks like to know about all of the characters beforehand.

Hopefully you find the blog as entertaining! By the way, before you conclude that I’m writing and grammar challenged, you should know that the blog is written in a particular style. Somehow or other, it developed along the way, on its own.  Four years later, it finally occurred to me that the style should have a name. There’s only one name I could think to give it. You guessed it – doggie style.

The Pre-Blog Dog
If you’re not up to date, or are just starting, here are the Facebook updates that got the Dog her blog, in easy-to-read chronological order.

Next week and for some weeks thereafter, Saundra will be in Pittsburgh from Monday to Thursday, coming home on Friday. She’s gone two days this week, Venus is mopey, and I just putter on the puter. Dog and husband are not looking forward to this 😦

Saundra went to Cleveland today for Monday, and then to Pittsburgh for the rest of the week. Venus protested by not eating her food for a few hours. I protested when I dropped her off at the airport. Neither one helped. Dog and husband are sulking a bit, but otherwise ok.

Venus has been laying around on the floor. I’ve been keeping busy with the gym, getting groceries, and other sundry things. Dog and Husband are ready and waiting for Wife to come home tomorrow!!!

Dog just can’t wait. Husband is shuffling off to Buffalo this morning, but RUNNING back to Rochester this evening. Both are jumping up and down with excitement because Saundra is coming back home today!!!!!

Dog is mopey even though she went to day care today. Husband is stressed about Wife’s problems with hotel Internet for her important online presentation. Dog and Husband are in the fourth week of Wife in Pittsburgh during the week scenario. Dog thinks it stinks like the skunk that blasted her last year. Husband thinks it stinks too, but heard that it might be over before Christmas.

Wife is sleeping soundly. Dog needed to go out, so Husband got up. Husband is excited to have a good weekend with Wife, as she’s back in town. Too bad Dog doesn’t know that Wife has only ONE more week of the Pittsburg run, and it’s over!

Husband puts dog out on leash. Dog spies something new and freezes in place – Cat! Cat is perched on top of Birdhouse, just above fence on other side, hoping for Bird breakfast. Dog tries sneaking up slowly. Dog gets to end of leash and stares, thinking she can get closer. Cat watches nonchalantly, thinks Dog is an idiot, and leaves.

Dog is always going outside on the chain. Dog spies two new neighbors in the yard, SquirrelOne and SquirrelTwo. Dog creeps up on them. Dog reaches end of chain and watches intently. Squirrels play on fence, goof around, have a great time, and ignore Dog completely.

Wife is on second day of last week in Pittsburgh. Dog normally doesn’t eat on second day because she knows Wife is gone for a longer time. But Dog went to day care today, had fun with Boyfriend. Dog gets home and eats, forgetting about Wife for a short time. Husband thinks about last Friday that Wife is in Pittsburgh, only three days away.

Wife is going to grad school for her Ph.D. Wife finished her last class and is now ABD (All But Dissertation). Wife got her last grade, and it was an A. Husband is very proud that Wife got an A in EVERY class she took for her degree! Husband thinks Wife is secretly proud of herself, but would never tell the FB public on her own. Dog thinks ABD means “Are Bones Dinner”??

Some people like my stories about Wife, Husband, and Dog – they get it. Some don’t. And FB status updates in the third person make some people crazy. Sooo… I got to thinking (I know that’s a surprise to many of you!), and came up with a crazy idea – The Dog Blog.
